Getting Started

The first thing to learn in any shooting sport is how to handle the gun safely, and how to act on a range with others. Your finger should always be out of the trigger guard if you are not engaging a target! I am an IDPA S.O. and see this rule broken too often.

Another thing is muzzle control. Get that muzzle away from your feet! Point it at the base of the berm, or at least the targets as you move, not at the sky! More on this later…

In the meantime read all you can on the basics, whether it’s IDPA, trap, or even rifle sports. Learn how to shoot from a bench slow-fire, and how to keep a tight group. When building anything, start with a solid foundation.
